National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Public Trust has tipped various stakeholders in the country to play their rightful role saying this is critical in achieving Malawi Vision 2063.

NICE Public Trust drilled yesterday, Thursday, drilled stakeholders from the area of Traditional Authority Malemia in Nsanje district on the same.

“We discussed Malawi 2063 with emphasis on mindset change and under mindset there are a number of values that were emphasized and these include patriotism, integrity, hard work, self-reliance but also positivity among others.

“And as we discussed the value of patriotism, practical examples of what we can do without relying on the government were discussed, for example issues of accumulation of sand on our roads around the boma, accumulation of waste and so on,” explained Kondwani Malunga, District Civic Education Officer.

He added, “the participants felt that these are things that we can work on our own without waiting for government support which is good news. So we have agreed that from Tuesday next week there will be a meeting which is a starting point of addressing some of these issues without waiting for the government's action.”

The NICE Public Trust further lamented gaps on issues of integrity and patriotism among the citizenry including the duty bearers.

“Issues of patriotism and integrity have somehow been eroded over the years due to the coming of democracy. People do not really understand some of the principles of democracy.

“Some people in the offices, duty bearers have not conducted themselves as expected in serving rights holders. So values of patriotism and integrity need to be emphasized so that we see the desired change,” said Malunga.

Reverend Welse Makwenemba of Word Alive Church, told Zodiak Online the church has a vital role to play if the country is to achieve the 2063 vision.

“The church has to empower its members, and enlighten them to take part. For example if the church does not allow members to seek medical treatment at health facilities we will have a lot of sick members in our congregation.

“That will retard development because no one who is sick can go and work,” said Reverend Makwenemba.

Apart from Malawi Vision 2063 NICE Public Trust also tackled cholera issues focusing on prevention.
