Ministry Obtains Injunction Against Striking Employees

Malawi government has obtained a court injunction against the strike by Ministry of Education employees who are demanding the removal of their principal secretary, Dr. MacPhil Magwira.

Chief State Advocate Dr Zolomphi Nkowani told Zodiak Online the injunction instructs the employees at the ministry’s headquarters to return to work.

“We can confirm obtaining the injunction. The injunction is restraining the employees at Ministry of Education from continuing with the industrial strike,” he said.

The employees are demanding the removal of Dr. MacPhil Magwira, whom they accuse of ill-treating them.

According to Dr Nkowani, the injunction granted by deputy chairperson of the Industrial Relations Court, Jack Nriva, has been served to all the employees involved in the strike.

For weeks now, employees at the Ministry have been pushing staying away from work, pushing for the removal of Dr Magwira.

Dr. Magwira has however denied the accusation, saying he is being targeted for instituting tight financial controls at the Ministry.

This followed revelations by an audit report that there is massive fraud and resources abuse at the ministry of education.—Zodiak Online
