LILONGWE: Malawi’s Members of Parliament on Tuesday rejected a revised financial allocation to the Office of President and Cabinet after the finance minister failed to explain why it had increased.
In the 2012/2013 budget the OPC was allocated 4.2 billion kwacha, but the figure had been revised to 5.2 billion kwacha.
But the lawmakers refused to adopt the revised figure arguing that there was no tangible explanation on why the figure had to go up.
The legislators also took Finance Minister Ken Lipenga to task over what they perceived to be duplications in financial allocations to some ministries and state departments.—Zodiak Online
