MPs Want CDF Increased to K15 million

Members of Parliament in Malawi have united to appeal for an increase of the constituency development fund – CDF – from 10 million kwacha to 15 million kwacha every year.
The appeal also comes at a time when the lawmakers are demanding that they be paid their fuel allowance arrears dating.
The fund enables the parliamentarians to initiate and implement development activities in their areas and it is managed at constituency level.
Commenting on a vote to the National Local Government Finance Committee, MP for Lilongwe Mpenu Mr. Watson Makala Ngozo asked the finance minister to increase the fund to allow them complete their projects within year.
Mr. Makala Ngozo also accused the media of reporting negatively on issues regarding abuse of the fund, saying the media is jealous of the legislators.
Member for Thyolo Thava Mr. Lifred Nawena and Chitipa Central Nick Masebo concurred with Mr. Makala Ngozo, saying the CDF is the only equitable distributed government fund, which targets all the 193 constituencies.—Zodiak Online
