JB Meets Food & Agriculture Organisation Director

President Joyce Banda Tuesday night held talks in camera with visiting FAO director general Mr. Graziano Da Silva and EU development commissioner Mr. Andris Piebalgs.
Briefing the press after the meeting at Kamuzu palace in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe, President Banda said the meeting was successful as FAO and the EU pledged continued cooperation in areas of agriculture, food security and nutrition.
In his brief address, Mr. Piebalgs said to achieve a meaningful cooperation there is need for Malawi’s policies in the Agriculture sector to be sound and predictable.
On Wednesday the delegation had a field visit to some crop fields in Lilongwe.
The two are is in Malawi to discuss the country's challenges on nutrition and food security.
The meeting follows reports that Malawi has made progress in the fight against hunger while malnutrition remains endemic in the country, with statistics indicating that over 47 per cent of children are suffering from stunting.—Zodiak Online
