Communities living along the Kasungu National Park boundaries in Chisinga and Chulu are at risk of renewed human–animal conflict this farming season following the suspension of protective fence construction meant to keep wildlife inside the park.
As unemployment among youths continues to pose a major challenge in the country, students have been encouraged to utilise the skills and knowledge gained from various universities and colleges as a way of addressing the problem.
At Bwaila Hospital in Lilongwe, 52-year-old Thoko Banda (not her real name) sits quietly on a wooden bench, her health passport thick with years of medical records. Diagnosed with HIV over a decade ago, she now also lives with hypertension and diabetes.
“I spend most of my time at the hospital,” she says. “If it’s not for one illness, it’s for another.”
Two refugees whose shipping containers were confiscated by police during the 2023 refugee relocation exercise have today walked out of the National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe smiling, after successfully reclaiming their property following a court order.
