MALGA Wants More Money to Local Councils
11 August 2025
The Malawi National Commission has appointed educationist Dr. Limbani Eliya Nsapato as Executive Secretary of the Commission effective 13 October, 2026.
Chairperson of the Executive Board of the UNESCO, Ken Ndala, says Dr. Nsapato brings 25 years of experience in education, governance, resource mobilization, research and advocacy.
Before his appointment, he served as Executive Director of Link for Education Governance (LEG). He also held senior positions including Country Director at Edukans Foundation Malawi, Regional Coordinator for the Africa Network Campaign on Education for All (ANCEFA) in Lusaka, Zambia, and National Coordinator for the Civil Society Education Coalition (CSEC), among others.
Ndala says they have full confidence in his ability to lead the Commission in providing strategic guidance to Government and other stakeholders in UNESCO's fields of competence, namely education, science, culture, communication and information programs and activities.
In his reaction, Dr. Nsapato described the appointment as challenging but crucial.
"For me this is a challenging position given that the Commission facilitates and coordinates the work of UNESCO in its four areas of competences including education, culture, sciences and communication. These four areas run across various ministries, departments and agencies. My role will be to ensure the Commission plays a leading role in spearheading policy changes which have impact on the people aligned to government's overarching development priorities spelt in the Malawi 2063 MIP-1," said Nsapato.
He is confident to deliver and will depend on the guidance from the Executive Board and support from fellow staff and strategic partners plus my experiences and qualifications to achieve the goals and objectives.
