Kang’oma Health Center Medical Assistant, Tisunge Gomani, believes the approach will help the assistance to tally with critical needs of the facilities.

The call was made in Lilongwe during a Covid-19 response media engagement under the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid.

“Back then we had many gaps in the fight against Covid-19, mostly on shortage of personal protective equipment. Some of the organizations came to gather information on our priority needs, it did not take long they came back to assist us,” Gomani said.

She added that “after few weeks the team came back to assess our progress and needs, we were again assisted accordingly all because before the assistance they conducted a research.”

Chitedze health center is another facility in Lilongwe which benefited from the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid.

The facility’s Senior Health Surveillance Assistant, Andrew Jere believes that the provision of chlorine as their priority need has helped a lot in the fight against Covid-19.

“We have not recorded any Covid-19 positive case for the past 6 months because we were disinfecting our premises with chlorine and we also distributed it to the villagers. Before this initiative, we had many cases as sanitation was a problem here,” Jere said.

The European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid project pumped in about 10 million kwacha for Covid-19 pandemic prevention, detection, and response at Kang’oma village.
