Agriculture authorities in Phalombe have challenged farmers to embrace poultry farming to uplift their socio-economic status.

The district’s Assistant Veterinary Officer, Christopher Ching’amba, has told Zodiak Online Friday that rearing chickens is a well-paying business and those plying it are graduating from the circle of poverty.

Ching’amba said people need to have passion and get adequate knowledge before venturing into poultry farming to ably rake huge benefits.

“Poultry farming is lucrative business and if they practice it properly, they will graduate from the vicious circle of poverty,” said Ching’amba, adding that apart from selling chickens, farmers can also use chicken droppings as manure for farming.

He said this when New Life Anointed Ministries trained Community Based Care Centres (CBCC’s) committees on poultry farming management at Waruma in Phalombe district.

The ministry’s executive director, Bishop Christopher Kapito, said the committees will help in sustaining the CBCC’s once the ministry pulls out of the area.

“We want to ensure that children are acquiring quality early childhood education in their respective centres by providing all the necessary support,” said Kapito.

He said the ministry will support two centers of Mkuwa and Kaledzera with chicks so that they sustain day to day running of the centres.

New Life Anointed Ministries (NLAM)  is implementing a six month project aimed at giving opportunity to children to acquire quality early childhood education to the tune  of K9 Million with financial support from Fresch Ministry International.
