MHRC Hails Chakwera’s Appointment Of Women

Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has commended President Lazarus Chakwera for the recent appointment of four women in top government positions.

On Tuesday, President Chakwera appointed Ms Collen Zamba as Secretary to the President and Cabinet and previously appointed Dr. Jean Piriminta as Director for the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA), Ms Lingalireni Mihowa is now Board.

Chairperson for the National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) and Ms Rachael Mijiga as Chief Executive Officer of Malawi Gaming Board.

MHRC’s Executive Secretary, Habiba Osman is asking the appointed women to uphold ethical conducts as they discharge their duties.

Osman added by saying that this is the only way women can continue being recognized in operations of the government.

“One of our critical roles in all the spaces is to lead well but more importantly professionally and ethically and the expectations of Malawians is that these women deliver results,” said Osman.

To governance expert, George Chaima, the appointments are a reflection of government’s commitment to achieve women inclusion.

Increasing numbers of women in Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) has always been a call by Civil Society Organizations in almost all the previous regimes.
