2 Plead Guilty of Redeeming AIP Maize Seeds in Thyolo

Two men who were arrested for redeeming maize seeds from 100 beneficiaries of the Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP) have pleaded guilty at Thyolo First Grade Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

State Prosecutor Felix Senzani said the two, Francis Chapamba aged 28, and Innocent Salamba, 23, in November 2023 used the internet to redeem the seeds for the farmers in Matapwata Extension Planning Area (EPA).

The two were answering an illegal trade and commerce offense contrary to Section 92 of the Electronic Transaction and Cyber Security Act.

Senzani has since asked that the Ministry of Agriculture should check in the system to see if the two duped other beneficiaries apart from the hundred.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Kondani Chinangwa has adjourned the matter to January 23, 2024.

Chapamba comes from Katundu village while Salamba hails from Chimaliro village both in Traditional Authority Chimaliro in the district.
