Communities Vow to Adhere to Covid-19 Preventive Protocols

As COVID19 cases are rising in what has been termed as the third wave, communities in T/A Chimutu and T/A Tsabango have vowed to continue following set prevention guidelines in a quest to avoid further spread of the virus.

The remarks were made during a media engagement under the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO) COVID-19 project that supports government’s efforts in containing the spread of COVID-19 in Lilongwe district.

One of the beneficiaries Loveness Josephy says lessons conducted through the project have enabled them to understand the importance each and every individual can play in preventing the spread of the virus.

“I was one of the people that would go in town without wearing a mask and did not wash my hands often. We thought it’s a disease that only affected people in town. Now we know better. Apart from the lessons they also give us chlorine which has also helped in the prevention of other diseases such as diarrhea.” said Loveness Josephy.

Meanwhile, Lyness Godfrey from Kang’oma area said, “Back then I never wanted to use Chlorine for household chores due to myths surrounding the product. Some people said the odour affects the respiratory system. But when NGOs started sensitizing us, I got facts about Chlorine, now my home is clean and healthy. We can not recall the last time we visited the hospital.”

As of 23rd June, Malawi had recorded 119 new cases and 4 new deaths with 758 active cases.
