Football Association of Malawi FAM President Mr. Walter Nyamilandu Manda who seeks re-election says should he be re-employed, he will ensure that the national team makes it to Brazil in 2014 or Africa Cup of Nations 2013 and 2015.
Nyamilandu-Manda said this as he officially declared his wish to contest for presidency again at Fam’s annual general meeting December 17, 2011.
The AGM will be held in the lake shore district of Salima.
Mr. Nyamilandu-Manda, whose main contender is former Super League of Malawi president Henry Chibowa, claims he is the only candidate in the present race who can take Malawi football to greater heights.
For about one and half hours, Mr. Nyamilandu Manda articulated the vision he has for the development of the sport in Malawi and beyond while on the other hand emphasizing on what he considers his achievements in the last two terms.
Perhaps the stumbling block to Mr. Nyamilandu Manda is the fact that he faces stiff competition from the former Sulom boss Mr. Chibowa who also has declared interest in the top football post.
In his manifesto delivered amid hand clapping and ululation, Mr. Nyamilandu put world cup qualification in 2014 and the qualification for Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 and 2015 as major targets.
Other notable plans in the pipe line should Mr. Naymilandu be voted again are that FAM will roll out a third major domestic competition as well as securing sponsorship for BB and Mighty Wanderers.
Again Malawians have been promised the first ever football academy in Malawi under Mr. Nyamilandu’s third term between 2012 and 2015.
This he said will be based on four cornerstones of hard work, unity, discipline and desire with a vision of making football contribute to the social economic development on the country under a slogan “Moving football forward”.
Among his achievement during his tenure from 2004 to date, Mr. Nyamilandu cited 14 points which included splendid performance of the national football team and the junior teams, good organization of competitions and many others.
