Vandals Remove Bingu’s Plaque on Khuluvi Highway
Barely a few days after President Bingu wa Mutharika officially opened the Bangula/Nsanje Road now named Khulubvi Highway, unknown people on Monday night removed the President’s plaque.
The plaque was inscribed with information on when the road was opened and about the person who presided over the opening ceremony of the 50 kilometer road.
Nsanje District Commissioner Mr. Rodney Simwaka has described the development as unfortunate.
“This is unfortunate and shameful. We will investiagte the ,matter,” said the DC.
Zodiak Online visited the place and confirmed that the plaque had been removed and burnt as all what one could see were some pieces.
Meanwhile, the ruling DPP is pointing fingers at Joyce Banda’s People’s Party, saying the party might have removed the plaque in reaction to what happened to their offices which were painted blue at night.
Blue is the color of the ruling party and suspicions were high the ruling party agents were the ones who painted the PP offices with blue colors.
While confirming that their office was painted blue, PP district governor Mr. John Chiliro denied involvement of PP supporters in the removal of the plaque.
The police say are investigating the matter.
