Honey Moon Over for Illegal Developers
LILONGWE: The City council in the Malawi capital Lilongwe has finally seen sense to stop illegal developers, who for years have ruined the town plan.
The council now wants increase the number of town rangers to check illegal and substandard developments in the city.
Spokesperson Mrs. Tamara Chafunya said the rangers will be on the lookout for any unplanned and illegal development projects in different parts of the capital.
Apparently, the city was woken up from its slumber by floods that devastated and displaced residents in parts of Kawale and Chipasula townships mid February.
Flood waters on February 18 washed away houses and property.
An assessment report that followed revealed that most of the flood victims had their houses about three metres from the river.
In reaction to the scenario, Lilongwe city council authorities urged the residents to relocate upland although up to date some of the victims are yet to comply. - Zodiak Online
