Atupele Discharged from Hospital

Atupele Muluzi, son to former Malawi President Bakili Muluzi, has been discharged from Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre.

The young Muluzi was admitted to the hospital after being transferred from   City Centre Clinic in Lilongwe where he was first treated for high blood pressure.

He is answering charges of disobeying Lilongwe district commissioner’s order not to hold political rallies in Lilongwe on March 18, 2012.

He is expected to appear before court on April 19 to answer the charge.

Mr. Muluzi, backed by one camp of opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) to be presidential candidate, was arrested on Tuesday March 20 following violence that erupted in Lilongwe's densely populated Area 24  on March 18 where his supporters clashed with police.

The former president’s son spent a night at Lumbadzi police station and was transferred to Maula Prison the following morning where he fell ill and was later taken to City Centre Clinic where he spent two nights before he was taken to Mwaiwathu Hospital.

He was released on police bail on Friday March 23 around midnight while still at the hospital.
