From Fuel to Sugar Queues
Hundreds of people in Zomba city, eastern Malawi, are queuing to buy sugar at Shoprite Stores where a one kilogram packet is selling at K215 while elsewhere it is going at K550.
However, Shoprite is rationing the sales to two packets per buyer.
Malawi is experiencing shortage of sugar for a month as result of a fault developed on the manufacturing plant at Dwangwa in Nkhotakota.
Illovo Company, manufacturers of the commodity, have since disputed reports that the scarcity is due to forex shortage. - Zodiak Online
