Hotel chain Sunbird plc. has invested over K200 million in a variety of water sports equipment for its premier resorts of Nkopola and Livingstonia.

Sunbird Nkopola manager Benedict Mndala told Zodiak Online the move is intended to attract more tourists to the two destinations.

Among the sports equipment are four speed boats, four jet skis, two motor boats, banana boats, a skimmer and other motorized engine equipment.

“We’re targeting all tourists whether local or foreign; we want to ensure that people travelling from Lilongwe and Blantyre are able to use the equipment,” he said.

Mndala said they have put in a place a reasonable pricing model to suit the pockets of local Malawians.

One tourist, Melvin Kawaye, says now people will have a variety of things to do when visiting the two locations.

“This is a good development…now when we go to the lake it’s one way in which we could have fun…it’s a great progress for the nation and for the people,” said Kawaye.

Sunbird Hotels will launch the water sports gear at Nkopola on Saturday.
