NICO Pumps in K10 million Sponsorship for Highbrow Film

The NICO group says the blossoming of the film industry can assist the country achieve economic growth and create job opportunities to the youth.

Speaking during the unveiling of the 10-million-kwacha sponsorship for Highbrow film premiere in Blantyre on Wednesday, Group Head of Marketing and experience, Lorraine Phiri, said as NICO is celebrating the 50 years anniversary, the Group thought of providing the much needed support for the development of local content.

“NICO is exited to host the Highbrow premiere at Icon theatre which is owned by the Group. The theatre was built to promote arts and it will be great to witness local art being exhibited in that great space,” said Phiri.

Phiri further explained that the company has also spent about 100 million kwacha to refurbish the icon theatre at Chichiri which help the development of quality local content in the country.

“Other countries like Nigeria have benefited a lot from the film industry. We hope Malawi can do the same,” said she.

Lead Actress in the Highbrow film Siphiwe Lino says the movie is inspired by real life stories surrounding Malawi’s biggest financial scandal Cashgate.

“We commend NICO for the support. We believe such assistance is vital to elevate arts and culture in Malawi,” stated Lino.

The film will be launched on 25 and 26 September, 2021 at Bingu International Conference Centre, BICC in Lilongwe and Icon theatre at Chichiri shopping in Blantyre.
