Organizers of this year’s Zomba City Festival (ZCF) say they will utilize the event to highlight sustainable ways of addressing the current land degradation being fueled by illegal activities.

Speaking to Zodiak today in Blantyre, organizers, Dereck Nyirenda and Esela Munthali said the festival will focus on how the beauty of Zomba city can be sustained.

They said the annual festival which is slated for April 29 to May 2, this year will have several activities like hiking, poetry and music among others.

“It’s a family fun, it’s for everyone. It is a festival which is going to showcase Zomba people and what Zomba is all about. You don’t need to just go there and sit down listening to music. You will have an opportunity to do various sporting activities.

“We also want to show you what has been happening in the city in the past few years, we talk about deforestation. If you go to the Zomba plateau now, landslides, mudslides and falling trees are common,” explained Munthali.

Organizers expert more than 1, 000 people to attend the festival where all Covid 19 preventive measures will be followed.

The Zomba Arts Platform has been championing the festival to maintain the beauty of the old capital city.
