As part of increasing initiatives to promote infection prevention in the country, World Vision Malawi (WVM) has donated 1, 300 plastic water buckets and 25, 000 cups to Mangochi district health and education offices.

Speaking after the donation, WVM programs manager for the district, Clement Kolove, said the items are basically to assist in improving hand washing in schools and health facilities.

“As you know, prevention of various diseases is based on hand washing; so we thought it wise to donate these items in hospitals and schools where also hygiene is paramount,” said Kolove, who said there is no any connection with the donation and Corona virus scare.

He said the organization just made the donation but if the disease will reach Malawi that will be an advantage for Mangochi district to have some of the facilities ready.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the health and education offices, Coordinating Primary Education Advisor, Basanio Kachere and District Hospital Senior Nursing Officer and Patron, McDonald Gondwe, hailed the donation, describing it as timely.

Kachere said while the buckets will assist in schools for hand washing, the cups will also assist schools where children receive porridge.

According to Gondwe, hospitals are now encouraging quality care which cannot be achieved without infection prevention and hand washing is one of the basic things of prevention.

“We were in dire need of this hand washing resources and with this donation, even our health centers will benefit,” said Gondwe.

Out of the donated items, the education sector has been given 19 thousand cups and 9 hundred buckets while 6 thousand cups and 4 hundred buckets have been donated to health Office.
