Immediate-past Malawi Revenue Authority Deputy Commissioner Roza Mbilizi has been arrested.

She is in police custody at Blantyre Police Station on offenses related to operations of her office.

Police spokesperson James Kadadzera says Mbilizi was arrested today by the Fiscal and Fraud Unit of the Malawi Police Service.

Kadadzera is yet to confirm specific charges related to the arrest of Mbilizi.

Police have arrested Roza Mbilizi, the former Deputy Commissioner General of Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA).

The media has been awash with speculation of imminent arrest of the former MRA deputy top boss in relation to alleged fraudulent dealings.

There are reports that Mbilizi was instrumental in the clearance of 400,000 cement bags which immediate-past President Peter Mutharika imported at K3.2bn tax-free.

President Lazarus Chakwera announced today that the appointment of John Bizwick to head MRA as care-taker leaders was to guard against “free-for-all” plunder of public resources.

The Chakwera administration has straight gone into engaging the justice system for alleged maladministration in the previous regime that ended June 23 with the fresh presidential election won by the Tonse Alliance under President Lazarus Chakwera.
