In an effort to make families of lower Neno food secure and migrate from low income to middle income citizens, World Vision International Malawi office has distributed three hundred of the two thousand goats to sixty families on a Pass-On program.

Speaking to Zodiak Wednesday afternoon, World Vision Programs Support and Strategy Manager Innocent Pendame said his organization came up with the Pass-On initiative after noticing that lower Neno favors animal farming as opposed to crop farming.

" If you look at this area, you will notice that they can't depend on crop farming because of the weather of this area, so engaging the people we thought of providing them with these goats to do livestock farming in order to beat perrenial hunger and address malnutrition ", he said.

Pandame added that, his organizations heart is also with the children in terms of addressing their nutrition status where stunting growth is beaten through provision of essential foods in the first one thousand days of a child hence the Pass-On initiative.

Dorris Zakaliya, a beneficiary from Waiyatsa village, under Matope Area Program, went home smiling with her five goats thanked World Vision for the support saying it will empower her economically and be able to pay school fees for her children and also address nutrition issues at her home.

"This initiative is timely, it will help me to send back my children to school, two of them are staying idle at home, and when i pass on the goats to the next beneficiary the remaining will help me raise the school fees", narrated Zakaliya.

Neno Chief Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources Officer Patrick Msiyambiri said lower Neno, especially the area of Senior Chief Symon is always hit by dry spells which results in food insecurities to its people.

"This area with its dryness and hot weather is ideal for livestock farming, so we are optimistic that the goats will do better and multiply to benefit the people here and transform their lives and i advise them to adhere to the guidelines of the program for it's success", said Msiyambiri.

World Vision is intending to see over one hundred and twenty families benefiting from the three hundred goats distributed in the next three years with the help of the agriculture department which has been tasked to look after the goats well-being.
