Former president, Professor Peter Mutharika, says is saddened with death of two cabinet ministers, Sidik Mia and Lingson Belekanyama, who died today Monday of COVID-19.

Through his Facebook page, Mutharika says together with his wife, Gertrude, they are “saddened by the untimely demise of two Cabinet Ministers.

“Our condolences go to the President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, the entire Cabinet, the bereaved families and Malawi as a whole.

“The former First Lady and I wish to share with the entire nation that in difficult times as we are passing through, it is important to hold hands despite our differences. Together we can defeat this common enemy that is among us,” he said.

Mutharika says that it is necessary to make decisions that will help the country in this period of the pandemic.

“Let me at this time suggest to the leadership and my fellow citizens that we make the necessary tough decisions that can save ourselves and our nation.

“Above all, we pray to God for his healing hand and mercy to take us through this trying period,” he said.
