Phalombe Police Publicist, Innocent Moses, says unknown people broke into the house of Jean Dzoole and stole the baby girl and escaped last night.

Moses says upon noticing that her baby was missing, she shouted for help.

He said; "well-wishers followed the shout and tried to catch the criminals who later threw the baby in a well just within the area."

Moses added that the baby was retrieved from the well and rushed to Holy Mission Hospital where the she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Postmortem results indicates that death was due to suffocation.

The deceased came from Kuchombe village, Traditional Authority Mkhumba in Phalombe district.
