Speaking on Tuesday in Neno when the Commission presented the Malawi 2063 document, NPC Communications Manager, Thom Khanje, says Malawi 2063 is replacing the Vision 2020 where it wants to eradicate poverty through the youths who have means of earning a living, like having factories in their respective district for value addition.

"This vision is inclusive and self-reliance; that is what Malawians want. They want to be independent economically and depart from being donor dependent. That's what this document is trying to answer," said Khanje.

He also said the vision is looking into districts with an aim of unleashing its potentials though agro-business and commercialization.

"We want industries in districts so that when farmers produce, they should not sell the products in raw forms, but they should process them for value addition," he said.

He notes that once these are done, the youths will have jobs, forex reserves for Malawi will increase where it shall mean more tax collection from different trading businesses that will be used to spar other developmental activities across the country.

In her remarks, Rottina Mlobwa, Neno District Council Administrative Officer, said her council is prepared to embrace the document for the development of the district where most of its youths are in poverty.

"We assure the Commission of our total commitment to achieve the aspirations of this document. We know the vision 2020 agenda did not benefit our district much and we can't afford the same; this is colorful blueprint," she said.

Industries in districts, according to Malawi 2063 will help reduce urbanization through the creation of towns with productive citizens who own businesses.
