The National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Trust says it has directed much of its energy towards sensitizing masses on COVID-19 prevention measures and clearing myths surrounding the disease.

NICE Executive Director, Ollen Mwalubunju, speaking during the Thursday evening COVID-19 update said his organization is equally concerned with misconceptions surrounding COVID-19.

“We have over 9, 000 volunteers across the country entrusted with COVID-19 sensitization messaging through door-to-door engagement sessions,” said Mwalubunju.

He further said the public trust is using national and community radio stations where they feature health personnel to explain and respond to questions relating to COVID-19.

“It is unfortunate that some educated and respected people in our society are leading in contravening COVID-19 prevention and containment rules and regulations instead of leading by example,” said Mwalubunju.

Meanwhile, Co-Chairperson of Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Dr. Chalamira Nkhoma, has said the much-touted COVID-19 AstraZeneca Vaccine is arriving this afternoon in the country.

“As earlier announced, first to be vaccinated will be health workers and other officers that serve many people directly,” said Dr. Nkhoma.

The past 24 hours, Malawi has registered 54 COVID-19 cases, 378 recoveries and two deaths and cumulatively the country has recorded 32, 283 confirmed cases, 20, 582 recoveries and 1058 deaths.
