Lassen, who was speaking during the official opening and handing over of the magnificent resource center the Danish Red Cross has constructed for the youths in Mangochi District, with funds from the Erik Thune Foundation, said having young people who are at a good environment and active will always bring something good.

“We hope definitely that this house will inspire more young people to be active and with great ideas from the beautiful group of people here, I see a great opportunity to generate more income and invest for other youth activities,” said Lassen

Red Cross youth leader for Mangochi, Enelless Gama, expressed her gratitude saying the youths will now have a safe place to express their views and experiences.

“We have been conducting our meetings in some unsafe places like under the tree where youths cannot be free to express their views or experiences. Now that we have this house, we will make sure that we make good use of it by allowing every youth in the district to use it,” said Gama.

According to her, it will also be easy to engage with service providers who can visit the youth house that before when they had no designated place.

“We have issues to do with education, sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence’s and many other things which we can get from the service providers and this will be the place,” explained Gama.

The place which will also be used to generate income as a conference hall has been fully furnished.
