The Minister of Information and Digitalization, Gospel Kazako has encouraged organizations and well-wishers to demonstrate honesty and accountability when reaching out to desperate flood survivors that were hit hard by the recent cyclone Ana.

Speaking to journalists after Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) donated assorted items worth K15 million to people of Makhuwira in Chikwawa on Saturday afternoon, Kazako said it is pathetic that there is total destruction of life largely affecting women and children.

“We have a big disaster here, going in camps, going in villages, there is total destruction of life, for many people are homeless.

“The situation is dire to everyone and we call upon partners to assist government in alleviating the challenges that people are experiencing,” said Kazako.

He said it is also imperative for individual Malawians to donate anything they have to support the people.

“If you have beddings, clothes and tents, please bring them, they will make a huge difference to the victims,” said the information minister.

Some of the food and non-food items which MACRA donated include flour, cups, plates, basins, plastics for roofing among others.

The minister’s sentiments come when thousands of Malawians from Chikwawa, Nsanje, Mulanje, Phalombe, Zomba, mangochi, Machinga and Neno are nursing the aftermath of cyclone Ana which killed more than 30 people, 20 others missing, over 100 injured and thousands homeless.

Most of those living in camps are complaining of facing difficulties to access food and other essential services.
