Airtel Donates to BSS and Mulanje Vocational Center

Airtel Malawi has made available a donation of assistive devices to Blantyre Secondary School - BSS and Mulanje Vocational Training and Rehabilitation Centre for the Blind to aide visually impaired students, easily read printed materials.

The company’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Brand Communications, Norah Chirwa says education is always at their heart as it the hub for the country’s development.

“Airtel Malawi values education as it remains key to our development. Let the benefiting institution make good use of the materials to ensure more people with visually impairment benefit as well,” she said.

She however disclosed that K15 Million has been set aside towards the exercise which will also benefit other institutions like Department of Disability, Ekwendeni School for the blind and Chiranga school for the blind in Kasungu.

Both Chifundo Petro of BSS and Tedson Chimera from Mulanje Vocation Training and Rehabilitation Centre for the Blind say the materials were timely.

“This is a kind of donation we have been in need of to help in improving our performance in class. Our institutions have been struggling to provide us with quality education due to inadequate of the same,” both said.

Meanwhile, Adam Mulagha, Principal for Mulanje Vocation Training and Rehabilitation Centre for the Blind has called on the corporate world to come in and assist the visually impaired learners as the case with what Malawi has done.

Among the donated materials include embossing paper, braille machine (embosser), braille hand frame and stylus.
