CCJP Bemoans Lack of Coordination in GBV Fight in Chiradzulu

The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) of the Blantyre Arch Diocese has bemoaned lack of coordination among key players in gender-based violence fight in Chiradzulu district.

CCJP Paralegal Desk Officer for Blantyre, Frackson Makwangwala, expressed the concern on Friday in Chiradzulu when the organization briefed the district's executive on an Enhanced Paralegal Service Project the organisation is implementing in the district.

Makwangwala added that among the key players who are supposed to Coordinate in the GBV fight through the district's one stop office, only the health sector is active.

"Eradicating Gender Based Violence requires strong coordination among all key players. For instance, apart from collaborating with the courts, the police victim support unit is also supposed to collaborate with health authorities. However, such has not been the case in Chiradzulu," said Makwangwala.

He therefore called on the GBV players in the district to revive the operations of one stop center in the district.

The District's Community Policing Coordinator, Sub Inspector Mark Munama, singled out lack of resources as a major challenge affecting the GBV fight in the district.

Currently, Malawi has joined the international community in the 16 days of Activism Gender Based violence campaign which runs from 25th November every year.
