The response is to cushion the families that are at risk of hunger based on the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee report for the district.

Neno district commissioner Hudson Kuphanga is calling on the beneficiaries not to sell the maize as it is meant to help them during this planting season when most families have no food.

"This is a symbol of care from government as these people are waiting for their cash transfer money. We delayed due to other logistical issues but we are ready with it", said Kuphanga.

A beneficiary, Milida Joseph thanked DoDMA for the relief saying it will go a long way in securing her family needs.

She said that they are very grateful “to our new DC and the entire council for remembering us with this 50-kilogram bag of maize. We are four in our family," thanked the granny.

In his remarks, Neno District Council Relief and Rehabilitation officer Brighton Mphinga says the government is ready with the cash transfer amounting to K463 million meant for 6176 families of Neno identified by the MVAC report.

"6,176 are not on Cash Transfer while 2,006 are on cash transfer, in total 8,182 households need food assistance in our district. All these are going to be assisted", said Mphinga.
