There was tension at Milanje in Mozambique on Tuesday when a Mozambican police officer shot a Malawian identified as Charles Nasiyaya on the left arm.

Sources confided in Zodiak Online that two couples from Mulanje in Malawi went to Milanje in Mozambique where husbands came from for family discussions.

“The couples passed through a police camp and the police officers commonly known as magwalada started searching the wives only. The officers were also touching private parts of the wives and this did not please the husbands,” said the source.

Then the husbands started quarreling with Mozambican law enforcers and officers shot in air until they exhausted all their bullets.

“Upon hearing the matter, relations from Malawi who included the victim Charles Nasiyaya rushed to the police camp. Nasiyaya was shot on the left arm but the angry villagers overpowered the officers and the officers run away leaving behind handcuffs and a pair of police uniform,” narrated the source.

The angry Malawians also set ablaze two structures at the camp.

Nasiyaya was rushed to Mulanje District Hospital where he has been admitted.

Speaking to Zodiak on Wednesday on the hospital bed, Nasiyaya said he met the fate when he went to Milanje when he heard that his sister had been arrested after resisting rape from a police officer.

“I heard that gwalada was forcing my sister to sleep with him and when she refused, police arrested her and when I went there to see for myself, I was shot on this arm,” said Nasiyaya.

National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera confirmed to Zodiak about the incident and he said investigations are still underway to ascertain what really happened.
