As angry voters had been demonstrating against victory of some candidates, mostly in Parliamentary elections in Mulanje district, it has been noted that some chiefs were also among the demonstrators.

The chiefs we talked to said they also voted and if they were not satisfied with the results they had the right to protest the results.

In separate interviews with Zodiak on Monday, Senior Chief Nkanda and Traditional Authority Njema said chiefs should not take part in political demonstrations.

“I have suspended three group village heads after confirming myself that they participated in demonstrations,” said Senior Chief Nkanda.

On his part, Traditional Authority Njema said he has issued warning to six chiefs who took part in demonstrations and has threatened to dethrone chiefs who will found participating in demonstrations.

“Last week I summoned six village heads to my headquarters and I warned them against participating in demonstrations. If they do not take heed, I will dethrone them,” said T/A Njema.
