The Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) has called on flood victims in flood prone areas to move upland to reduce exposure to floods.

MOC Administration Manager Naomi Chinatu made the remarks on the sidelines of a relief distribution at T/A Sitola's headquarters.

According to Chinatu, if people do not move upland Malawi, they will continue to experience the same disasters every year.

She said they decided to reach out to the affected families as it is within their core values.

"One of our core values is social welfare. We believe for anyone to take part in sports they need to be physically fit," said Chinatu.

She was speaking when they donated items worth K7 million to 300 families. The items include 1 bail of soya pieces, cooking oil, plastic sheets, plates, cups and buckets.

One of the beneficiaries, Violet Chilumba from White Village said the donation will help them as their crops were washed away with the floods. 29,031 households were affected by floods in Machinga.
