Three days after Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) announced results of parliamentary elections, some electorates continue showing their dissatisfaction with the results.

In Mulanje district, some voters are even baying for blood of Presiding Officers (POs) and Constituency Returning Officers (CROs) for allegedly having a hand in outcomes of parliamentary results.

Peter Meleka, PO for Sanjale centre in Mulanje North, Zakeyu Manyozo, PO for Gambula Centre in Mulanje Limbuli and Mr. Munyonga PO for Milonde in Mulanje South East have reported to have been threatened by some voters for allegedly tampering with the parliamentary results.

CRO for Mulanje Limbuli Anita Katchana has also not been spared with the threats and she told Zodiak on Tuesday morning that she together with Mr. Manyozo have been living in hiding fearing for their lives.

“I have just returned home now after spending a day in hiding but am not sure of my safety despite assurance from police that I should go back home,” said Katchana.

Both MP elect for Mulanje Limbuli Daud Chida and MP for Mulanje South East Naomi Kilekwa Phiri also said they are not safe in their respective constituencies.

Both are Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislators.

District Commissioner Charles Makanga confirmed to have received reports of some teachers receiving threats from some voters and he said he has asked police to provide enough security to all threatened teachers and CROs.

Makanga has also pleaded with all aggrieved parties to lodge their complaints to MEC in writing other than issuing threats and assaulting each other.

Meanwhile Mulanje Police Station Officer Senior Superintendent Isaiah Mlowoka says officers are patrolling all violence prone areas in the district.

“We are maintaining our visibility in all violence prone areas to ensure that there is peace and order in the district.
