Health authorities in Ntcheu say they are set to roll out a week long Vitamin A supplementation and de-worming campaign targeting under five children beginning Monday next week.

Ntcheu District Health Office spokesperson, Stella Kawalala, told Zodiak Online Thursday that the exercise targets 112, 134 under five children in the district.

The targeted children are from 6 months to 59 months old.

"All the 39 health facilities, both government and Christian Health Association of Malawi (Cham) in the district, will participate in the campaign," she said.

Kawalala said static and mobile clinics will also be established aimed at reaching all the targeted children across the district.

She however said lactating mothers and pregnant women will also be reached to assess their nutrition status.

Interventions during a weeklong child health day include Vitamin A supplementation and de-worming among under five children.

Aim is to prevent blindness due to Vitamin A deficiency besides prevention of malnutrition from intestinal worm infestation among targeted children.

Ministry of health is implementing the campaign in the district jointly with other partners like United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), World Vision International and World Food Programme (WFP) among others.
