Chileka Police Station Prosecutor, Inspector Grace Kanjiwa, told the court that that on 18 October, 2020, Maduka committed the offense after learning that the daughter refused to wash dishes.

He said the convict tied the girl's legs and hands, locked her in the house for some hours before pouring hot water on her both legs and hands.

Chileka police spokesperson, Peter Mchizi, told Zodiak Online that after noticing that girl was injured, the father and her mother took her to a private hospital.

“Neighbors reported the matter to police and the suspect was arrested while the victim was referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for treatment,” he said.

"More than 20 children and some youth in Chikwawa and Mwanza have spent three days here in Majete Wildlife Reserve where we provided them with environmental education," said Makwale.

Makwale thinks such initiatives are necessary in motivating surrounding communities mainly children and the youth to have passion and protecting natural resources.

He added that they want young people around Majete to develop a sense of ownership in conserving the environment including the Reserve.

He further stated that apart from the outdoor adventure program, Majete has done a lot of projects to improve lives of surrounding communities.

"We have been constructing school blocks, paying school fees for needy learners, drilling boles and promoting bee keeping for income among others.

"We are also expecting to establish irrigation facilities in some villages to make sure that villagers are food secure," said Makwale.

I have learnt a lot of things. We climbed Majete hill, we had to swim and had various lessons on environment. I have benefited a lot," said Faluweki.

In her case Dalitso said as a young girl, she will encourage friends and parents at home to plant more trees.

"With what I have experienced here like the boat riding and the sun set view spot, I am happy and encouraged to do something so as to conserve natural resources," said Paul.
