A tailor and a form four student are millionaires after winning in the Bet Yanga draw held in Blantyre on Tuesday.

One Issa Derrick from Mangochi and Dominick Mbalume from Thyolo walked away with 7.6 million and 1.7 million kwacha respectively.

Executive director of Super Pesa Richard Makondi said he is happy that the money would be changing people’s lives but expressed worry over the increase of fraudsters who take advantage of such competitions to rob people of their hard-earned money.

“As a Malawian Company we are happy with the support from Malawians and the change we are able to bring to Malawians. Super Pesa is a new company and the support has been amazing.

“We have a very big responsibility to educate Malawians so they can understand what is happening. The main challenge that we have been battling with is the issue of fraudsters.

“People are being duped of their money that is why we are working on educating the public so they can know our special numbers and be able to separate thieves from us.

“It hurts me that a family from Chinsapo won 3 million kwacha but they could not believe it thinking it’s fake. So as a company we are working on locating them and giving them their money,” said Makondi.

He further added that since the beginning of the company earlier this year the company has given out about 160 million kwacha.

Speaking after receiving the money Issa Derrick said he could not believe it at first but now that he has the K7 million, he will use it to boost his business and improve his living conditions.

“I am very happy to receive this money. I have been playing without winning but I kept on trying so as to increase my chances of winning. I am just a poor tailor from Mangochi T/A Makanjila this money will change my fortunes. I want to use it to improve my house so I can sleep better and the rest we will see after that,” said Derrick.

On his part 19-year-old winner Dominick Mbalume said he will use the money he has won for his studies.

“I have been seeing many people playing and winning and I had the belief that if I also play then I can also win, so I tried my luck. I will use the money to pay for my school fees and to buy other school related needs,” he said.

The two both became winners on a 500-kwacha stake ticket in the Bet Yanga soccer prediction betting game.
