The Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) says it has seen a 20 percent increase in rental and ground rate payment compliance by tenants in the past two months.

MHC Spokesperson, Ernestina Lunguzi, has attributed the boom to digital payment initiative it initiated with National Bank of Malawi through Kwathu pa Mo Promotion.

This came up on Tuesday in Blantyre during a second draw of the promotion.

“More people are now able to pay in the comfort of their homes using Mo 626 because of the promotion. We have also seen an increase of people inquiring on how to enter the promotion. This is good to us.

“We are also happy that apart from paying rentals, it has excited our tenants to win various prizes. That also makes our tenants happy,” she said.

NBM Head of Digital Finance Services, William Kaunda, says they long to see more people migrating to digital transactions.

Kaunda says they have already beaten a 20 percent target with a month to go into the Promotion.

“We have seen an increase of people who are using our platforms. Last time, we had around 20 percent of people using the platforms but this time around we have around 21 percent so we are still moving,” he said.
