Kulinga Mawa Campaign Takes New Dimension

As one way of reaching out to many people with timely free family planning messages, the Family Planning Association of Malawi (FPAM) in Ntcheu is sensitizing communities using cinemas.

Ntcheu FPAM District Manager, Saukila Sitima, told Zodiak Online that through the campaign dubbed Kulinga Mawa, they are showing a 15 minute documentary on effects of having a large family compared to a sizable one.

Saukila said rapid population exerts pressure in distribution of resources both at household and national level.

"We are using this campaign to raise awareness on accessibility of free and timely modern contraceptives to address demographic dividends," he said.

He however said so far, over 8, 000 people of child bearing age have already accessed different modern contraceptives in four Traditional Authorities (T/A's) of Mwakwangwala, Phambala, Ganya and Njolomole respectively.

In the meantime, modern contraceptive prevalence for Ntcheu stands at 47% which is higher than 46% of national prevalence.

The Kulinga Mawa campaign is being funded by European Union (EU).
