Police in Ntcheu have arrested five people suspected to have been behind a spate of breaking offences in the district.

Ntcheu Police Station Deputy Spokesperson, Sergeant Rabecca Kwisongole told Zodiak Online Tuesday that the suspects, all ex-convicts, were operating a gang group known as B13 Al - Shabab.

Reports say the suspects were disguising as Criminal Investigation Officers during their operations.

"From January this year, there has been a spate of burglary and robberies in the district. On Friday our Officers acted on a tip to arrest one person and later arrested the five suspects in the process," she said.

Kwisongole said police recovered various properties from the suspects which include assorted electronic gadgets and three motor cycles among others.

All the suspects have been charged with breaking offences and will appear in court soon, according to police.
