Ranger Deployed to Mulanje to Hunt for a Beast

Government has deployed a game ranger to Mulanje to hunt for a beast suspected to have attacked and killed an 87 year old man on Sunday.

Mulanje Police Spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Gresham Ngwira, who identified the deceased as Richard Khoriyo has told us that the game ranger will be working with police and community policing members.

Director of Parks and Wildlife, Brighton Kumchedwa, has confirmed to us that a game ranger has been deployed to Mulanje to hunt for the beast.

“Let me take this opportunity to advise communities there to be very cautious as the beast could be hiding either in the graveyards or along the river banks and it might attack some people because now it is highly charged,” said Kumchedwa.

Meanwhile police are advising people to avoid leaving alone vulnerable people like the elderly, children and persons with acute disabilities to avoid such accidents.

The body of Mr. Khoriyo was found on Sunday morning in a pool of blood some 200 metres away from his house and the body had internal organs and right leg removed.

The deceased was from Waluma village in Traditional Authority Chikumbu I in the district.
