Angry Students Torch Thyolo Secondary School Buildings

Angry students have torched an administration block at Thyolo Secondary School in angry protests last night.

Thyolo police Sub-Inspector Amos Tione says the students have also destroyed hostels, a matron’s house, dining room and part of the headmaster’s house.

The Thyolo police PRO says preliminary investigations indicate that the students are angry that they are being moved from the school and replaced by other students”.

"The students allege that when they came back, they found they were replaced by other students," Sub-Inspector Tione said.

The Thyolo Police Spokesperson told Zodiak Online that it is alleged that some students were suspended due to disciplinary reasons ranging from use of cellphones, teasing and bullying.

The police PRO said value of the damaged property is not yet known as investigations continue.

School authorities are yet to comment on the matter.
