Thyolo Secondary School Closed Indefinitely

Following violent incident that left several structures razed down by irate students on Wednesday night, the ministry of education has closed the school indefinitely.

Spokesperson for the ministry, Lindiwe Chide, has confirmed to Zodiak Online about the suspension of classes at the school.

"Yes it is true, the students have been sent home to pave way for investigations on what triggered the violence," said Chide.

According to Thyolo Police Spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Amos Tione, it is alleged that some students were suspended due to indiscipline ranging from use of cellphones, teasing and bullying form one students.

Sub-Inspector Tione said the students further allege that the school management is replacing bona fide students with their relations.

"The fire which the students set destroyed general building which comprises administration office and bursar’s office, hostels, matron’s house and part of the head teacher’s house," said Sub-Inspector Tione.

Sub-Inspector Tione said the value of damaged property is not yet known as assessment on damaged property continues.

Police have so far arrested four students in connection with the arson but according to Sub-Inspector Tione, the four are yet to be charged as investigations continue.
