But since planting, scorching sun has been showing its ugly face and the farmers are slowly losing hope.

In Mulanje for example, most crops are either withering or have dried completely.

But the Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Officer in Mulanje Keith Saenda says the farmers should not completely lose hope as the district might soon receive good rains.

“The farmers should not really get worried because we might receive good rains soon,” Saenda said.

On his part Director of Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services Jolamu Nkhokwe said the current weather pattern remains as his department predicted.

“We at MET predicted first rains commonly called “chizuma lupsya” in October and we received that rains. We also predicted good rains in the second and third week of November and we believe we will receive that rains,” Nkhokwe said.

According to the weather forecasts, from Friday some parts of the southern region will start receiving good rains up to Wednesday next week.

He further said the good thing is that this year the weather will be characterized by the destructive Elnino and Lanina winds.
