The suggestion comes in the wake of alleged mishandling of allocations of land in most parts of the country.

The governance activists, Fryson Chodzi and Rafiq Hajat, argue that the setting up of a commission is a step towards bringing sanity in the sell and acquisition of public land.

Chodzi says such a commission would be answerable to parliament hence the optimism of the return of sanity in this area.

“The new Land Law also provides the establishment of an independent body in the name of Land Commission to oversee all land issues.

Government just needs to release resources for the establishment of this body," he said.

Institute for Policy Interaction Executive Director, Rafiq Hajat echoed the same sentiments.

"While establishing the independent body, at first there is need to clear out the rot happening at Ministry of Land.

“This will help in efficiency of the body when discharging duties once established,” he said. 

Meanwhile, Traditional Authority Kwataine of Ntcheu has also welcomed the idea of establishing Land Commission saying it will help in protecting land jealously.

Suddenly, mismanagement of land allocation has become an issue after discoveries that a place where stands one primary school called Livimbo in Lilongwe has been encroached upon.

More and more cases of land mismanagement have since been emerging.
