Police Splits its Regions to Serve Better

The Malawi Police Service says the splitting of Southern and Central Police Regions will reduce delays in responding to security needs and at the same time reduce crime prevalence.

Southern Region will also have South East Regional Police Headquarters whose office will be in Mulanje while Central Region will also have Central East Regional Police Headquarters with an office in Kasungu.

Director of Finance and Administration at the National Police Headquarters Commissioner Tadius Samveka told Zodiakonline that in 2014 and 2016 the Malawi Police Service conducted establishment and functional review.

“We established that some regions have so many stations and this has been a challenge to adequately serve people,” said Commissioner Samveka.

He said this the reason MPS has now decided to split Southern and Central Police Regions and that will mean taking police services closer to people.

“This direction is also a fulfillment decentralization which the government of Malawi adopted,” said Commissioner Samveka.

Under South East Regional Police Headquarters will be Mulanje, Chiradzulu, Nsanje, Chikwawa, Thyolo, Luchenza and Phalombe stations while Central East Regional Police Headquarters will have Kasungu, Dowa, Ntchisi, Mponela, Salima and Nkhotakota.
