Students Riot at Bilira CDSS, Destroy Property

Students at Bilira Community Day Secondary School in Ntcheu went on a rampage yesterday, destroying school property because of allegation that a student teacher has an affair with a student.

Ntcheu District Education Manager, Lucia Chidalengwa, told Zodiak Online saying the student teacher has since been sent back to Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar).

“Classes were suspended until tomorrow (Tuesday) owing to the fracas,” Chidalengwa said.

Meanwhile, police have arrested three students in connection with the mayhem that ensued.

Ntcheu Police Deputy Publicist, Sub Inspector Rebecca Kwisongole, says the trio has been charged with malicious damage.

Kwisongole said police expect to make more arrests as investigations are still underway.

Some of destroyed items at the school include an administration block, smashed windows of the school hall and damage to a teacher's house.
