ACB spokesperson, Egrita Ndala, says Dr. Bikoko was arrested at the ACB offices in Lilongwe, where he was summoned to explain his side of story on alleged corruption in sale of land.

"We have arrested the former Mayor following a complaint which some people lodged alleging that Bikoko authorised the sale of land in area 46 along the Likuni road near Chinsapo without following procedures," said Ndala.

Without specifying time, Ndala said Bikoko would be taken to court where he will be formally charged when ACB official finish recording his statement.

The former Mayor is likely to be charged with abuse of office according to Ndala.

ACB is investigating the manner at which officials have been selling land in the city following revelations that pieces of land including part of Livimbo school has been dubiously sold to business people.

The issue came to light when Lilongwe City South West legislator Nancy Tembo alleged before the Legal Affiars Committee of Parliament that land at Livimbo Community Day Secondary School was sold to a Malawian of Asian origin.
